The 1967 World’s Fair – Expo 67
Imagine a place where people all over the world are invited to come and share the beauty their culture offers! For Montreal, the 1967 World’s Fair was truly a window on the world.
Between 1963 and 1967, the best of Quebec’s expertise and resources were put to work, transforming the islands into a sparkling mosaic of earth and water. With 28,000,000 tons of backfill, Île Sainte-Hélène was expanded and Île Notre-Dame was created from scratch. Montreal was ready to host Expo 67.
Over 60 countries answered the call, creating an impressive array of imaginatively conceived pavilions. Man and His World was born! From April to October 1967, over 50 million visitors roamed the Islands, taking in the rich medley of cultures on display. The excitement was palpable – a world without borders!
Library and Archives Canada are making the « Expo ‘67 » exhibitions available online.
