CHOOSING FOR THE FUTURE
A Sustainable Development Policy for Société du parc Jean-Drapeau

In 2009, Société du parc Jean-Drapeau is launching its first sustainable development policy, which reflects a desire by the entire organization to do more and to do it better. With the slogan Choosing for the Future, sustainable development at Parc Jean-Drapeau encompasses economic, social and environmental concerns, with a view to meeting the needs of current and future generations, so that cohesive, effective and sustainable decisions can be made.

Sustainable development at Parc Jean-Drapeau also means offsetting greenhouse gas emissions to improve the quality of air and build a healthy, sustainable future for the Park. In addition to its centres of activity, nearly 100 major public events are held on its grounds each year. Société du parc Jean-Drapeau has therefore created the Fonds Oxygène to offset the CO2 generated by daily activities and major events. The initiatives financed by this fund will ensure that natural resources are used in a sustainable manner.

2010 marks the start of the materialization of the Choosing for the Future policy by the developing and adopting of the 2010-2012 Sustainable Development Action Plan. Actually, more than 400 actions were chosen to respond to the social, economic and environmental concerns related to Société du parc Jean-Drapeau activities. A summary of this plan is found below.
